Well, in narrative voice, hobbits are human, of course - but that's kind of the point I was making - that the narrator puts us in the shoes of someone not human, and makes them relatable. Maybe not neccessarily Tolkien's point, but the one it does make all the same.
And that's exactly it, how it works in writing!
I think I'd appreciate it later - late May is when all the frantic examing and essaying will be happening!
